Vodafone launches JUMP e-learning portal

 VODAFONE Zambia has launched the JUMP e-learning portal which will enable students access videos of lectures by qualified lecturers from reputable institutions across the country.

The portal would accommodate lecture videos of lecturers from institutions such as the University of Zambia, The Copperbelt University, ZCAS, UNLUS and guest lecturers from Harvard Universities in USA.

Speaking at the launch in Lusaka, Vodafone Zambia chief executive office Lars Stork said that the JUMP academy portal would provide a series of lecture videos that cut across various subject matters.

Mr Stork explained that the portal would feature videos of qualified lecturers from reputable institutions such as the University of Zambia, The Copperbelt University, ZCAS, UNLUS and guest lecturers from Harvard Universities in USA.

He said that Vodafone Zambia had reiterated its commitment in bridging the digital divide in education through the launch of JUMP.

“I am proud that the portal was conceptualized and produced in Zambia, and can be accessed for free. The aim is to align current trends in ICT space” said Mr Stork.

Meanwhile, minister of Higher Education Nkandu Luo said in a speech read for her by the ministry’s acting director of vocational training Precious Munyele that ICT would significantly transform the education sector.

She noted that with the introduction of ICT, a new world of possibilities was available to assist both lecturers and students maximize on learning experience.

The minister said that Zambia’s rise in internet users and the revolutionary changes that had happened in education had created a very fertile environment for e-learning to grow.

She commended Vodafone Zambia for learning the change and intensifying the use of e-learning platforms to students.

Prof Luo said that the use of technology to support education would ensure that students were imparted with vital skills when entering the national workforce.

“My ministry understands that with the introduction of ICT in education, a new world of possibilities was available to assist both lecturers and students maximize on learning experience,

“The use of technology to support education will not only enhance student’s access to quality tutorials and learning materials, but will also help ensure they are digital savvy and computer literate” she said
