Youth church camp meeting ended in pregnancy

A YOUNG woman of Lusaka told a Local Court that she made love with a man she met at a church youth camp meeting and that he was responsible for her pregnancy. Beauty Hangoma, 20, was testifying in a case in which her mother Melody Mweemba, 37, of John Laing compound sued Roderick Changa, 25, of Linda compound for deflowering and impregnating her. When the claim was read, Changa denied the charge. Mweemba told Senior Court Magistrate Lewis Mumba sitting with Magistrate Abbyshine Michelo at Kanyama Local Court that her daughter, Beauty completed Grade 12 and that when she fell pregnant, she mentioned Changa being responsible. She explained that Beauty told her that she only made love with Changa and that he was responsible for her pregnancy. In defence, Changa said that when he was on separation with his wife in December last year, he met Beauty at a youth church camp meeting. In January 2016, they became close friends and that in February, they started making love. He, however, said they always used condoms but the fifth time which was the last on September 25, 2016 was without a condom, but he released semen on Beauty’s breasts. Beauty testified that she knew Changa in December last year at a camp meeting and that they were in relationship for ten months. She explained that on four occasions they made love in Changa’s house without a condom and that after he went back to Chilanga, she telephoned and told him that she was pregnant. She was, however, shocked to learn that he was with his family. When asked by Changa whether they were not using condoms and if he did not release semen on her breast the last time they did not use a condom, Beauty said that they did not use a condom and that he did not release on her breasts. Magistrate Mumba said that Changa admitted making love with Beauty and found him guilty of the charge. He ordered Changa to compensate Mweemba with K8000 with initial payment of K1000 followed by monthly instalments of K500.
