‘NKANA IS BIG’
By MICHAEL MIYOBA
NKANA coach Beston Chambeshi has described his side as a big team which does not deserve to compete in the Eden University FAZ Division.
Speaking after helping the Kitwe giants survive relegation, Chambeshi said he was happy to succeed with the mission of helping the team to survive relegation.
Chambeshi said Nkana will now focus on rebuilding the team with young players to compete for trophies next season.
“Preparations are important, I’ve learnt that preps were not that good and have to improve. Adequate preparations are important in everything.
“The situation we found ourselves it wasn’t about anything else it was how we prepared we didn’t prepare well,” Chambeshi said.
It wasn’t easy for the team and I’m happy as a coach to see the team survive relegation. For now it is just a matter of looking forward and seeing how we will challenge for trophies next year,” he said.
Meanwhile, Nkana players already set their eyes on winning next season’s league title after surviving relegation.
Goal keeper Kelvin Malunga who produced some fine saves in Nkana’s last league fixture against Napsa Stars which ended 0-0 said there is need for Nkana to maintain the same team which has potential to win the league next season.
“I’m very happy and proud of myself because I helped the team to survive relegation. The coach always pushed us to continue pushing and not to focus on other teams which are playing we were only focusing on ourselves. We had so many challenges but as players and the technical staff we have to work as a team forgetting those problems we had.
“Next season we want to bring the 14th title to Nkana we have to maintain the same team which played the last 11 games,” Malunga said.
And Nkana captain Richard Ocran said the defending champions struggled to compete this season because of the CAF Champions League.
“Because of the Champions League we were struggling but we came together as a team because Nkana is a big team which is not supposed to go to division one so we decided to fight to the end and we are happy,” said the Ghanaian defender.
“For now we are enjoying but we will go home and sit down with management, we have to start well next season we don’t have to be in this situation again. We have to prepare very well and fight very well so that we can win the league.”
Nkana finished the league 13th on the Super League table with 45 points, five points ahead of relegated Young Green Eagles.
