ZAVA CALLS FR PROMOTION OF BEACH VOLLEYBALL
The Zambia Volleyball Association has called for the promotion of beach volleyball in schools in the country.
Association Technical Director Martin Mweemba says the sport is increasingly becoming popular among various organizations despite not getting the support in schools where there are a number of potential players.
Mweemba says although Zambia has become part of the top 8 in Africa in terms of recognition, more needs to be done in ensuring that the sport becomes attractive in the country.
He said this in Mongu over the weekend during the national Beach volleyball tournament held at Mulambwa grounds.
Mweemba stated that the tournament was hosted by Mongu with a view to encourage locals to participate owing to the availability of sand which is needed for the sporting activity.
He however disclosed that only five women teams participated in the tournament, which included Nkwazi and Kabwe Correctional Service from Lusaka and Central provinces respectively.
Meanwhile, the Kabwe Correctional Service from the women’s side got away with the first prize after beating Nkwazi beach volleyball team in the competition.
Grace Daka and Ester Sitambuli from the winning team said they were happy for scooping the first prize at the tournament.
