SIAVONGA has received 1,800 bags of fertiliser as the first consignment under the direct input supply to be distributed to farmers during the 2021/2022 Farmer Input Support Programme (FISP). Alpha Commodities Siavongadepot manager Chishimba Mutale said the district will soon receive another additional consignment of 300 metric tonnes to cater for 1, 393 farmers under FISP.
Mr. Mutale told Southern Province Agricultural Coordinator Dr. Max Choombe that from the 1, 800 bags of fertiliser received 1, 111 is D-Compound while 689 is Urea. Dr. Choombe was in Siavonga to check on the flow of fertiliser delivered under the FISP and undertaking a Joint
Monitoring and Supervision visit in the districts. Mr. Mutale told Dr. Choombe that the distribution of fertiliser and seed to farmers will commence next week once the full tonnage of fertilizer and seed are received in the district. He expressed optimism that full tonnage of both seed and fertilizer allocated to the district will reach the area soon and distribution to farmers shall immediately commence. Mr. Mutale said so far the input delivery to Siavonga is going on smoothly as Government as put in place all modalities of having a successful input delivery programme to districts. He explained that Alpha Commodities is a fertiliser warehouse manager contracted under the direct input supply in the district. – NAIS
