THE sacking of some selfish   senior Government officials and top military brass who betrayed president Edgar Lungu and thought they would continue working with the new dawn administration is a welcome move that will teach a lesson to ungrateful individuals, Wright Musoma has said.

Mr Musoma, who is opposition Zambia Republican Party (ZRP) leader , has welcomed President Hakainde Hichilema’s decision to dismiss several former government officials including  Permanent Secretaries (PSs) who according to him, were opportunists who backstabbed president Lungu and wanted to cross to the UPND-led government.

He accused the people that Mr Lungu entrusted with leadership in government and parastatals of double standards.

Mr Musoma told the Sunday Nation in an interview that his party had information that some former government officials in the previous regime, including some PF members of Parliament back stabbed Mr Lungu.

He said it was sad and unfortunate that some PSs, army generals and chief executive officers in State parastatals who were appointed by Mr Lungu turned out to be his betrayers.

“We in the ZRP are happy that Bally (President Hichilema) has fired some former PSs, Army Generals, CEOs and managers of government parastatals who betrayed the former President (Mr Lungu) by leaking important information to the then opposition UPND hoping that they would be reappointed in the next government,” Mr Musoma said.

Mr Musoma stated that the sacking of some opportunists from the former ruling party by President Hichilema was an important and necessary first step towards teaching a lesson to ungrateful individuals.

Mr Musoma however advised those in government to learn from their colleagues that selfishness does not pay.
