By SIMON MUNTEMBA

The Church and other stakeholders should  partner with   government in fostering unity in the country,  President Hakainde Hichilema has said.

Speaking when he attended the induction ceremony for the Kamwala Adventist Youth 2022 in Lusaka yesterday, President Hichilema called on the church to continue praying for his administration to lead the country according to Jesus’ teaching.

Mr Hichilema also implored the church to work with his Government in uniting the nation.

He said unity of purpose was critical for the government to deliver development across the country for all citizens.

“For us to work and live within the teachings of Jesus, please, work to unite this country. Within a democratic environment, work to unite this country, because unity of purpose is critical for us to deliver development to our people.

“Please continue praying for us, remember, we  too  are praying for you because your role is nobble,” President Hichilema said.

The President also said his government considers the church as a strategic partner in national development.

President Hichilema said he would continue collaborating with all the Churches because they all belonged to the body of Christ despite worshiping on different days.

He also commended the church for the role it has played in leading and holding the country together both in good and bad times in the past.

And Southern Zambia Union Conference President Vanny Munyumbwe praised President Hichilema for his insistence on the upholding of the rule of law and ensuring that no one is above the law.

Dr Munyumbwe further called on President Hichilema to make politics as a noble career that hinges on ideas and not name calling and insulting language.

He also praised government for introducing free education, and for reuniting couples that were separated through transfers.
