Chipata rape victim urged to report to police

The Chipata rape victim should come out and pursue the matter with law enforcement agencies to allow justice to prevail, the Zambia National Men’s Network for Gender and Development (ZNMNGD) has said.

The association was reacting to a video which has gone viral on  social media in which a man is raping woman in full view of cheering spectators while some people held the hands and legs of the victim.

Network National Coordinator Nelson Banda says the fight against all forms of SGBV must be everyone’s concern.

Mr Banda says men and boys should to be leading the fight against sexual gender based violence as they are viewed as the perpetrators.

He says as an organisation working with men and boys to promote gender equality and equity, it demands for justice over the matter and the victim must report to police.

He reiterated that rape is one of the forms of sexual gender based violence-SGBV-which is a serious crime and all those who commit the offence must not go scot free.
