THE Patriotic Front (PF) says Zesco board chairperson Vickson Ncube’s public apology for misleading President Hakainde Hichilema on the energy crisis is an afterthought aimed at saving the Head of State from embarrassment.

PF chairperson for information and publicity, Raphael Nakacinda said Mr Ncube wanted to sanitize President Hichilema by publicly apologizing for the misinformation on issues concerning the issues at the Kariba dam and load shedding.

Mr Nakacinda said in an interview that Mr Ncube’s apology was an attempt to save President Hichilema from embarrassment for misleading Zambians that his administration had ended load shedding, contrary to the prevailing energy deficit.

He said President Hichilema should have dismissed Mr Ncube and Zesco managing director, Victor Mapani for misleading him if they had refused to resign on their own.

“This is the right thing that should happen after he has publicly admitted that they are the ones who are causing confusion and misinforming the President about the status of the energy sector that is the Kariba Dam and load shedding to be precise,” Mr Nakacinda said.

He wondered why President Hichilema had not taken action even after learning that he had been misled by his technocrats but the Head of State instead flew out to Angola as if nothing had happened.

Mr Nakacinda said the fact that President Hichilema sat idly by and did not action against Mr Ncube and Mr Mapani portrayed him as not serious on issues of national importance..

And Mr Nakacinda said the PF was actively preparing for the 2026 elections.

“As we march towards 2026,  we are getting ready, we are putting measures in reforming the party by changing the party constitution, policy document and the manifesto,” Mr Nakacinda said.
