Hichilema exaggerating violence under PF – SP

By NATION REPORTER

IT is an alarming exaggeration for President Hakainde Hichilema to claim that teargas and blood was the order of the day during the Patriotic Front (PF) administration, the Socialist Party has said.

And the Socialist Party says President Hichilema should stop mocking Zambians that they forget easily because for the last one and half years, citizens have been reminding him about the promises he made during his campaigns none of which has been fulfilled.

Frank Bwalya, the Socialist Party spokesperson has described as untrue assertion by President Hichilema that Zambia was a country of teargas and bloodshed prior to the UPND ascendance to power.

Mr Bwalya said while Zambians hated and detested hooliganism, thuggery and violence under the PF, Mr Hakainde Hichilema should be reminded that cadrerism he was allocating to the former ruling party had become rife in his political party.

He said the while lawlessness which was allegedly sponsored by the former ruling party was strongly being condemned, Mr Hichilema should avoid the temptation of exaggerating the levels and intervals of violence at the time.

He stated that it was not true that teargas and bloodshed was the order of the day and that the head of State should allow himself to moderate his feelings when speaking about matters of national interest.

“We disagree with the statement by President Hakainde Hichilema which he made while addressing Zambians resident in Angola recently that teargas and blood was the order of the day at bus stops before he became President. Under the administration of Mr. Hichilema, we have witnessed the same hooliganism and violence, the latest being at Kulima bus station in Lusaka, which saw innocent people injured and Flash buses damaged,” Mr Bwalya said.

He stated that the recent violence which saw people injured and Flash buses damaged was fresh in the minds of the people, especially those who witnessed it.

And Mr Bwalya has said that the yardstick President Hichilema should use to confirm his claim that Zambians forget easily was for him to ask Zambians if they remember what he promised when asking for their vote in 2021.
