THE covid19 pandemic has continued to claim more lives with the nation losing 69 in the last 24 hours while the health care system has over 21,000 active cases from community and isolation centres, the government has said.
And Government has directed newly recruited health workers to report to their duty stations failure to which they would be replaced.
Dr Malama said yesterday all ten provinces recorded Covid-19 deaths, with 69 new deaths reported and Lusaka province tops the list with 31; Copperbelt 11; Southern 11; Eastern 8; Western 3; Central 1; Luapula 1; Muchinga 1; Northern 1; and North-western one.
The cumulative number of Covid-19 related deaths recorded to date now stands at 2,091 (classified as 1,400 Covid deaths and 691 Covid-19 associated deaths).
Dr Malama said the country now had 21,129 active cases, with 19,777 (94 percent) under community management and 1,352 (6 percent) admitted to our Covid-19 isolation and treatment facilities.
Among those currently under admission, 917 (68percent) are on Oxygen therapy and 195 (14 percent) are in critical condition; 243 of the currently hospitalized were new admissions.
He cautioned that there is hope on the horizon and that the nation could significantly change the course of the Pandemic in the next three weeks if people worked as a collective unity.
Dr Malama also announced that in the coming days the country would be receiving support from both the World Health Organization (WHO) and Africa CDC in terms of commodities and technical expertise.
He also noted that wiith the increased admissions to hospitals, the Health Care workers have been stretched and that government was committed to providing the various tools, Personal Protective equipment and a conducive working environment.
