EX-EMPLOYEE SUES MOPANI FOR WRONGFUL DISMISSAL, DEMANDS K450, 000

MOPANI Copper Mines Plc has been taken to court by its former employee for alleged wrongful dismissal and is demanding payment of terminal benefits in the sum of K450, 000.
Mr Norias Mwenya wants the Lusaka High Court to order Mopani to pay him K451, 030, being terminal benefits for the last 14 years he worked.
He is also demanding payment of royal bonus to be assessed and damages for unfair dismissal and costs.
Mr Mwenya in his claim stated that on July 8, this year, Mopani dismissed him on allegations that he was guilty of the offence of unauthorized removal or possession of property belonging to the company.
“Following the internal disciplinary procedures, the matter was subsequently reported to the police and taken to the subordinates court in Kitwe. After the determination of the alleged offence by the court stated above, the plaintiff was found with no case to answer and was acquitted on August 5, 2021,” he stated.
Mr Mwenya stated that he has made numerous pleas to Mopani to pay his terminal benefits, but the Mining Company has to date failed, refused and or neglected to compensate him for unlawful and unfair dismissal.
This he stated has led to him suffer loss, inconvenience and damage.
