TAKE action against the people cited in the Auditor General’s report failure to which the fight against corruption would be a battle in futility, Political Parties and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) have urged the government.
Citizens Democratic Party (CDP) leader Robert Mwanza said in an interview that the fight against corruption could only be won if the law enforcement agencies took action against those cited in the report.
Mr. Mwanza said in an interview that for years people have been cited in the AG report but unfortunately no action has been taken.
He further said the fight against graft would only be won when the executive detaches itself from the operations of the law enforcement agencies.
Mr Mwanza said the trend has been that from one administration to another the prosecution agencies are mostly controlled by the executive.
He said this has made it difficult for the law enforcement agencies to prosecute government officials that have been cited in the report.
‘’The executive such as ACC, DEC, FIC whether people can deny or what, are under the executive office and I cannot shy away from that, it’s in public domain,’’ he said.
And Caritas Zambia, Executive Director, Eugene Kabika implored government through the law enforcement agencies not to delay the prosecution of individuals cited in the report in order to curtail the vice that was becoming normal.
Mr. Kabika said in an interview that quick action should be taken and culprits brought to book because it was the only way to curb misuse of public funds.
He said the inertia to prosecute such cases is what has led to the country failing to develop because those who misuse public funds continue to go unpunished.
