By LUCY PHIRI

PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema’s directive to have maternity wings and running water in all health care facilities by December 2023 is being met aggressively in Sesheke after WaterAid Zambia handed over to Government seven maternity annexes.

WaterAid Zambia Interim Country Director Leah Mtolo said the seven maternity annexes were out of the 17 facilities that would be completed and handed over to Government soon in Sesheke District alone.

Ms Mtolo said WaterAid Zambia had been working tirelessly on its mission under the Resolution to Revolution (R2R) Project in Sesheke.

She said facilities handed over include Katima Mulilo, Zambezi Sawmills Health Post, Lusu West Health Post, Neongelo Health Post, Silolo Health Post, Mazaba Health Post, Mukusi Health Post and Silumbu Health Post.

Ms Mtolo said the maternity annexes come with modern fittings, modern ablutions with flushable toilets, Incinerators, ash pits, placenta pits and installations of solar-powered water reticulated systems.

She said the WaterAid Zambia project is in partnership with On Call Africa which is implementing a Resolution to Revolution (R2R) Project.

Ms Mtolo said the facilities will make a significant impact on the lives of the local community and contribute to better healthcare access.

She said she is happy with Sesheke Member of Parliament Romeo Kangombe, for accepting the facilities on behalf of the Government.
