Israeli businessmen to invest in agric-Siliya

A TEAM of Israeli businessmen are in the country to invest in the agricultural sector following the visit by President Edgar Lungu to that country.

The team that met with Agriculture Minister at his office yesterday has shown keen interest in investing in the agriculture sector.

And in receiving the delegation that was led by ZRB major shareholder Zeeve Zacharin, the minister said Government was in a hurry to see investment in the agriculture sector.

Ms. Siliya said she hoped that the visit by the businessmen from Israel would help develop the agriculture sector.

She cited development in irrigation technology as a way in which production of crops could be
increased.

“We want to see investment in
irrigation and in the farm blocks.
We have ten farm blocks and there is need for investment in infrastructure energy and technology to make them productive,” she said.

She advised that there was need for investment and the involvement of local people as out grower scheme farmers who could contribute to the production of vegetables.

She announced that more investors from Israel were expected next week.

And, Mr. Zacharin said the company was interested to invest in the country and partner with the private sector in implementing their projects.

He said the company hoped to address their concept and find a way to cooperate with players in the agriculture sector and bring in new technology.

“We are linked to the land and what is most important is to implement the projects. There is nothing sophisticated with technology all that is needed is to take a step,” he said.

He said they were pioneers in building partnerships and were interested in working with the private sector.
