CENTRAL Province can start exporting different agricultural products both raw and finished if the sector is improved to international standards, says provincial permanent secretary Chanda Kabwe.

Mr Kabwe said the province was blessed with fertile soils conducive for different farming activities, hence the need for those interested to seriously invest in the sector for the economic benefit of the country.

“If the agricultural sector is boosted and improved to international standards the province can start exporting different agricultural products both raw and finished in order for the country to gain the much needed foreign currency,” he said.

He appealed to both local and foreign investors to invest in the agricultural sector heavily for Central Province to become the agricultural hub of the country and the Southern African region.

He said once the agricultural sector was improved by luring both local and foreign investors to invest hugely in the province, the industry would create many job opportunities for the youths and the people of Central Province at large.

Mr Kabwe said Central Province had vast lands which needed to be utilized by both commercial and subsistence farmers because the region had the potential to become the food basket of the SADC region.

He said agriculture was vital to the economic growth of the country, therefore players in the sector should invest massively for the betterment of the local people and the nation at large.

He said the Government and President Lungu attached great importance to the agricultural sector because it was key to the nation’s development.

He said the agriculture sector was important to the well-being of the country because no country in the world could survive without it.
