GREEN Buffaloes open their CAF Confederation Cup campaign against Egyptian side Al Masry today in the first leg of the preliminary round at Port Said stadium.
After a six -year absence from the continental competition, Buffaloes are determined to go beyond the Group stage.
Today’s battle will be the first competitive match to be played at Al Masry home Port Said Stadium since it was recently reopened after a five-year closure.
The facility was closed in February 2012 after the death of 72 supporters during clashes between fans and police in the wake of a local league match between Al Masry and Egyptian giants Al Ahly.
Masry will be under pressure to give the fans a victorious re-opening of the stadium.
On the other hand, Buffaloes coach Bilton Musonda said his charges are ready for battle and will not settle for anything less than victory.
Coached by Egyptian legend Hossam Hassan, Masry have cautioned Buffaloes to be ready for a loss.
Last year, Masry reached the play-off round before losing to Uganda’s Kampala City Council Authority on penalties.
Hassan is optimistic his lads will open the continental campaign on a winning note.
Masry’s striking ammunition lies in Burkinabe import Aristide Bance, Islam Eissa and Ahmed Gomaa.
Musonda has however kept his faith in Friday Samu, Diamond Chikwekwe and Aubrey Chela upfront.
Youremember Banda and Felix Katongo are expected to hold the midfield.
Buchizya Mfune will lead the backline of Adrian Chama, Malani Gondwe and Emmanuel Museka while Davy Kaumbwa will be between the posts.
The winner of the legged encounter will face either Tanzania’s Simba or Gendarmerie of Djibouti.
