PARALLEL structures  have now been formed at Chief Kahare area in Kaoma’s Nkeyema against the will of the people and despite the   restraining order from the court.

However, the rival structures were said to have been operating against the tradition of the Nkoya to frustrate people who were believed to be against them.

The rival group is alleged to have appointed its own ngambela and indunas to carry out tradition duties  , contrary to the operation of their norms and culture. There has been sporadic outbreaks of violence since September as attempts to install the new Chief Kahare failed as the process was marred by confusion, due to  Nkoya rival camps fighting over who should succeed the chief who died a few months ago.

But Nkoya Ngambela Mwanashihemi  appealed to the people in the area to remain calm and wait for the courts to decide the right heir to the throne.

Ngambela Mwanashihemi told the Daily Nation yesterday that he wondered why some individuals had no patience, when infact they knew that the matter was in court. “It is our enerst appeal that  people should exercise patience despite people who want to bring confusion by driving their own agenda which is against the tradition,” he said. He said calm had returned but that people were driving their own agenda to instil pain on innocent people, but urged the villagers not to reiterate  and wait for justice to prevail.

The traditional leader was shocked that some people had defied the court order, and instead started doing things on their own to suit their agenda. He said the villagers were now living in fear because the group was violent and that they were capable of doing anything.

“We do not understand where the other group is getting powers from because the matter is in court and we have been from meetings to meetings to ensure our people are safe, as they are living in fear looking at what they are subjected to,” he said. Initially, the villagers stated that Henry Kahare was the right heir to the late Chief Kahare as per traditional lineage.

But the group led by Edward Kahare were alleged to have not agreed with the majority.

The villagers alleged that it was unfair that traditional leaders were engaging in violence, and wondered how possible it  could be for such individuals to head people.

It was alleged that there were two group that were fighting for the position of chief Kahare, that is one group supporting Edward

Kahare and the other supporting Henry Kahare.

And the Henry Kahare group had filed an affidavit in support of summons for an order of interim injuction against Edward Kahare and others, saying that the selection of him as Chief  Kahare was done in accordance with the Nkoya custom and tradition of succession.

However, Chief Mutondo has since revoked  the instruments of power and kept them at his palace, until the right heir to the throne of Chief Kahare was installed in fear of further confusion
