FORMER first Lady, Maureen Mwanawasa has dragged the Lusaka City Council (LCC) and another person only identified as Mr Banda to Lusaka High court on claims of land possession and loss of time.

Mrs Mwanawasa stated in a writ of sermons filed in the Lusaka High Court principle registry  that she was the registered owner of a piece of land known and situated at Plot No.323 of farm No. 441a Roma Kiola Road in Lusaka under the Title Deed, No.92019.

She said that Mr Banda was the developer and occupant of the said piece of land.

Mrs Mwanawasa said that LCC authorized Mr Banda to construct and build on the piece of Land belonging to her.

She said that the Lusaka City Council while acting together with Mr Banda decided to ignore the title holder.

Mrs Mwanawasa charged that she was initially given the authority, by LCC to construct on the said piece of land and that she has document to present as part of evidence at trial.

She said that she decided to draw up a the diagram, sank a bore hole, bought building material and engaged workers who commenced the construction of the planned building when LCC decided to cancel the authority given to her in suspicious circumstances.

She said that Mr Banda allegedly destroyed the building material and chased away the contractor from the site and begun constructing his own structures which are there now.

Mrs Mwanawasa charged that the duo connived to and deprived her full usage of the said piece of land and thus is seeking for the indulgence of the court to repossess the said piece of land.

Ms Mwanawasa said it was only fair that she be given back the land in question and paid special damages for the cost of architectural diagrams, installation of a borehole, cost of labour and building materials at current prices and any other relief that the court deemed fit.
