MUNIR EJECTED FROM PARLEY FOR INAPPROPRIATE DRESSING
By OLIVER SAMBOKO

CONTROVERSIAL independent Member of Parliament for Lumezi, Munir Zulu, was yesterday sent out of parliament dressed in a “thobe” a long robe worn by Muslim men.
This was after Keembe MP, Princess Kasune, questioned whether Mr Zulu was in order to dress in a manner not prescribed by the Parliamentary dress code.
In her ruling, first deputy speaker, Attractor Chisangano, who observed that the mover of the point of order had cited a wrong standing order, however, said parliament has a dress code which must be observed by all MPs.
Ms Chisangano then directed all members who were not dressed appropriately according to the dress code, to leave the house and only return when they were dressed properly.
“If you know that you are not dressed in the required dress code, you are not supposed to be in this house, so can the honourable member leave the house,” she said.
According to parliamentary dress code, the official dress for male Members of Parliament is formal suit, a pair of long trousers, a shirt, tie and jacket, toga or safari suit with long or short sleeves and a scarf or tie.
