DON’T ABANDON PROJECTS, UPND URGED

By SANFROSSA MANYINDA

MPOROKOSO Member of Parliament Brian Mundubile has challenged the new UPND administration to fix and not abandon projects meant to improve people’s lives.

Mr Mundubile said the government needed to come out in the open and explain why it had decided to place Indeni Oil Refinery under care and maintenance.

He said the decision lacked proper expert input and did not conduct a comprehensive regulatory impact assessment before reaching the decision.

Mr Mundubile said people had the right to know the reasons that motivated the decision.

“Now that government wants to transport finished products the same way crude oil was transported, Zambians want to know what security measures they have put in place.

“The crude oil being transported through the TAZAMA Oil Pipeline did not attract any thefts and now that the government wants to transport a finished product through the same old, leaking pipeline, they should explain the measures they have put in place to protect the product,” he said.

Mr Mundubile said he did not believe that the UPND government had put in enough security measures in place to protect the product.

He falso advised the government to rethink their position and tell the nation which middlemen government was removing in that value chain, how much are the savings and then what the costs of the decision would be.

Mr Mundubile said Government needed to consider the plight of the workers first before embarking on this mammoth project.

He added that there was no credible engagement with workers’ representatives on the matter which would have resulted in making a better decision.
