A FLAMING incendiary intended to burn down the Daily Nation office was seen by the Lusaka magistrates court which watched a CCTV video footage of the bombing.

The court saw two bombs thrown towards the offices. One landed harmlessly in the parking lot while the second exploded into a ball of fire, short of the main entrance.

Moses Mambwe, 37, an Information Technologist at the company, presented the video to the court showing the bombs being tossed in the premises and the ensuing explosion.

Mambwe also told the court that from the video, he identified accused, Henry Phiri as the person in the footage at the time of the bombing.

This was in a matter before magistrate Judy Chiyaika.

The witness, Moses Mambwe, told the court that he was an IT technician who has worked for the Daily Nation Limited since 2013 and knew the guard, Phiri, who was on duty the night the incident occurred.

He presented the video evidence from the CCTV monitor which showed the court what had happened on that particular day.

The witness explained to the court that the guard was awake when the incident happened because he rushed to open the gate for a vehicle which was coming from outside.

“The guard was rushing to open the gate a few minutes after the bomb was thrown in the premises from outside,” he said.

And the accused, Henry Phiri admitted to what the witness had told the court.

Public prosecutor, detective inspector Chongo asked the court to adjourn the matter as there were more witnesses to testify.

The matter has since been adjourned to October 9th 2017.
