GOVERNMENT wants to empower youths with skills that will enable them become real owners of white collar jobs, says Northern Province Minister Brian Mundubile.

Speaking when he featured on the Patriotic Front Interactive Forum platform on Sunday, Mr Mundubile said that the time to impart entrepreneurial skills in the youth was now so that they too could become employers in their own right.

Mr Mundubile said this in reference to the Zambia National Service youth training centre that President Edgar Lungu had inspected on his two-day working visit in the province where he also commissioned the Turrow gas and oil exploration project.

He hailed the ZNS training as admirable because one would easily see the level of discipline in those that had gone through it from their conduct in and out of uniform.

Mr Mundubile said the social trends that had caused a clear distinction between the youth of today and stating that youths were quite reckless about their way of life because some were involved in illicit activities.

“We need to inculcate discipline in our youths so that even as they become entrepreneurs, they have a level of discipline that will keep them grounded. We want that kind of training in all institutions so that our youths embark on their business journey,” said Mr Mundubile.

And Mr Mundubile has applauded the kind of investors that were engaging in skills transfer programmes for the local people, stating that the investors were the right partners to have in the development agenda of the nation.

Mr Mundubile said the Turrow gas and oil exploration project which had been commissioned was one such project that had already shown commitment to ensuring that youths converted training that would equip them with the necessary skills which will also reduce the high levels of poverty in the province.

He said that the Mporokoso-Kawambwa road that the President had launched two weeks ago, was a major road that would link the province to Luapula Province and make  economic activities such as agriculture and tourism easier for  the people of the two provinces to practice.
