Cadres chided for hounding Luangwa Council Chairperson out of office

By ADRIAN MWANZA
THE UPND has taken exception to cadres hounding an elected official out of his office in Luangwa and has urged police to move and restore sanity.
UPND Secretary-General Batuke Imenda said that it was wrong for the cadres to move in and lock up the offices of the council chairperson.
Mr Imenda said that the action taken by the cadres was wrong and would tarnish the image of the head of State who was candid on the issue of caderism.
He said that law enforcers needed to move in and deal with the lawbreakers regardless of their political affiliation.
“I want to urge the authorities not to waste time and deal with all those that were involved because the President has made it clear that he will not shield law breakers,” he said.
Mr Imenda said Zambians were fed up of cadres and that the new dawn government had made it clear that it would go on a different trajectory.
Mr Imenda was reacting to reports of UPND cadres in Luangwa hounding the Town Council Chairperson, Mr Lawrence Shaba from his office and threatening to deal with him if he returned.
The cadres who threatened Mr Shaba said that they would not allow the official to return to the office because his seat had been nullified after losing UPND candidate Arthur Lungu appealed.
The agitated cadres demanded a stay of execution from the PF lawmaker who had reportedly left Luangwa for fear of his life.
In a video that has gone viral, a group of cadres are seen threatening the council chairperson while closing his office and holding placards.
