‘RAIDED’ FINDLAY TO SUE STATE? – WE’LL LET THE NATION KNOW OUR NEXT MOVE OVER FINDLAY’S ILLEGAL SEARCHES- LAWYER

By SIMON MUNTEMBA
LUSAKA businessman, Valden Findlay is likely to pursue a personal injury claim against Government over the continued raids and searching of his private properties by the investigative wings in his absence, his lawyers have indicated.

A joint investigative team of security wings on Saturday raided and searched Mr Findlay’s house in New Kasama and on Sunday did the same at his farm in Chisamba, with reports that huge sums of money were found at his home and some allegedly stolen by police officers who were on the run.
In an interview, one of Mr Findlay’s lawyers, Mr Jonas Zimba of Makebi Zulu Advocates who condemned the illegal searches said the nation would within this week be informed of their next move once they get instructions from their client.
Mr Zimba who did not disclose their planned move, insisted that the raids and searches were illegal and action shall be taken against the “perpetrators.”
“Amy Generals never disclose their next move. But we will definitely let the nation know about our next move once we get instructions from our client. In fact, I will let you know tomorrow (today) once we draft something,” Mr Zimba said.
Meanwhile, Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) spokesperson Queen Chibwe said the security wings were issued with a search warrant.
Ms Chibwe said contrary to claims by Mr Findlay and his lawyers that the search was illegal, there was no illegality.
Mr Findlay told the Daily Nation on Sunday that despite being advised by his lawyers not to, the investigative wings went ahead to illegally search his home in his absence.

“Yes, I can confirm that a search was carried out by relevant Government authorities at my private residence. I, however, take issue with the legality of the search, which was conducted in my absence and despite the officers being advised by my lawyers that this was illegal, they proceeded anyway,” Mr Findlay said.
The joint investigative team comprises the ACC, Drug Enforcement Commission, Financial Intelligence Centre, and Zambia Police Service.
