ABOUT 43 people have died on the spot while several others were injured in a traffic accident involving a Zambia bound King Lion bus in the Nyamakate area in Hurungwe, Zimbabwe last night.

And Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA) public relations manager Fred Mubanga has confirmed the fatal accident which involved a Zambian-bound Zimbabwean bus but that there was no information yet on whether there were any Zambians among the dead.

Zimbamwe Police spokesperson, Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba confirmed the accident and said the driver failed to negotiate a curve and lost control. He hit into a tree before overturning.

Ms Charamba said the fact that the driver failed to negotiate a curve confirmed that he could have been over speeding.

She said that the development was sad as it came just a few months after another accident killed more than 20 people in the same area.

Ms Charamba said Police will lobby Harare to come up with a law that would compel buses to travel during the day as most accidents happen at night.

Mr Mubanga said they were aware of the accidents which has claimed 43 lives, but that it was not a Zambian transporter, and they have not yet received details of the manifest and identities of the diseased.
