Namwala Hospital cries for mortuary

UPND Namwala Central councilor Jeff Sitali has appeal to Government to install a cold room at the new Namwala district hospital as it is time consuming and costly for residents to ferry corpses to nearby districts.

In an interview yesterday, Mr Sitali called on Government to quickly commission the Namwala district, which has been operational over a month, and to install a cold room at the mortuary facility.

He said that it had become a huge burden to the bereaved families who struggled to ferry bodies of their loved ones to nearby districts such as Choma district in terms of transportation cost and that it was time consuming explaining that in some instances bodies would bulge.

“The Government has already built a new hospital. What is remaining is putting up a cold room and to commission it, as the hospital has been operational for over a month,” Mr Sitali explained.

Mourners have no choice but to take bodies of their loved ones to nearby districts seeking cold room facilities such as Choma. Now this is costly in terms of transport and in some instances bodies decompose while being ferried.”

Mr Sitali also urged the Ministry of Health to employ more staff at the district hospital in order to improve service delivery to the community.

“I would like to take this opportunity to urge the Ministry of Health to employ more staff at the hospital in order to improve service delivery to the community,” he said.

A resident Mweemba Milimo, said that there was need for the Government to beef up staff at the hospital as members of the community were subjected to long queues and wondered why the Government had taken long to commission the facility.
