Quality tertiary education enhances service delivery-Luo

GOVERNMENT is committed to work with both public and private universities to identify the development needs of the country’s economy and to ensure that learning institutions maintain high standards of quality and service delivery, says Minister of Higher Education Nkandu Luo.

Ms Luo said that the Ministry of Higher Education was committed to collaborate with both private and public universities to build and strengthen the country’s economy for the benefit of all citizens.

She said that the ministry would endeavour to support the growth of the economy through initiatives which would identify the needs of citizens and would compel high learning institutions to deliver education of high quality and integrity to meet corresponding demands in the market.

In a speech read on her behalf, by acting permanent secretary Peggy Chirwa yesterday in Lusaka, at the University of Africa (UOA) graduation ceremony whose theme was “Get ready for Growth”, the minister said that the ministry was excited about the education growth in the country and the continent at large.

“The Ministry of Higher Education is committed to supporting the growth of the Zambian economy through its work with both private and public universities to identify the development needs of the economy and to ensure high standards of quality and service delivery,” she said.

Ms Luo, who is Patriotic Front (PF) Munali member of Parliament, said that the graduates were inspiring people around them after having had set development goals and achieved them through hard work and perseverance.

And UOA vice chancellor, Tobias Doyer said that the World Bank, through it private investment arm International Finance Corporation had awarded AdvTech funding with the mandate to expand their operations in Africa who settled for the university as its preferred partner.

Dr. Doyer said that the country had a huge potential to make more revenue in agriculture activities if well utilised compared to copper production and stated that the university would introduce short agriculture courses.
