Let’s stop politicking on debt – Mundubile

BY NATION REPORTER

LEADER of the opposition in Parliament, Brian Mundubile has observed that despite a lot of resources being spent to support some state owned enterprises, the government is not realizing returns on the investments.

Mr Mundubile has also called for a stop to politicking over the issue of debt because it’s important especially if the money is being invested prudently and not for consumption. And Parliament has approved a total of K12,766,579,633 for Loans and Investments under the Ministry of Finance and National planning which will see some funds being  channeled towards rehabilitation of roads to key economic sites.

Contributing to the debate on the estimate of Revenue and Expenditure for Loans and Investments under the Ministry of Finance and National Planning, Mr Mundubile said there is urgent need to start running the state owned enterprises as pure business.

He said this is the only way Zambians can start benefiting from their investment.

Mr Mundubile said every investment by the government should ensure that benefits trickle down to the citizens who are ultimate shareholders.

And Matero Member of Parliament, Miles Sampa said the country should move together and stop the blame game on the IMF loan accumulation.

He said under the current circumstance, any government, even the PF if they had won the presidency, would have gone for an IMF programme.

Mr Sampa said the IMF loan has given the country some confidence in the eyes of the international investors and lenders who now want to come to the country to invest in the economy.

Mr Sampa who has since pledged to donate 1 percent of his monthly salary to the treasury as part of belt tightening, called for sacrifice from all Zambians for a better tomorrow.
