FIVE people of Chinese, Burundi and Lebanese nationalities have been arrested by the Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) for smuggling goods valued at K3.6 million.

The arrested individuals have been detained for smuggling activities involving seven transit trucks carrying assorted goods worth K3, 600, 000.

ZRA has since suspended the licence of the clearing agent to pave way for thorough investigations.

Corporate Communications Manager, Topsy Sikalinda, said ZRA through the Elite Anti-Smuggling Squad intercepted the seven trucks that had been declared as being in transit to Zimbabwe yet had separate documents which indicated that the goods were to be delivered in Lusaka.

Mr. Sikalinda explained that both the smuggled goods and the trucks used had been seized and forfeited to the State according to Section 149 of the Customs and Excise Act.

“It was only after intensive interviews from the ZRA officers that the drivers of the trucks revealed that the trucks were destined for Zambia and not Zimbabwe
