ZAMBIAN players must compete with their foreign teammates to play for Buildcon FC, says president Moses Mubanga.

Mubanga said players needed to work hard and compete with everybody to earn a place and play in the club.

He explained that selection of players would be done on merit and not on nationality basis as the Ndola-based Super League outfit’s aimed to win the 2018 title.

“We have regrouped and are more focused to achieve our target which is to win the 2018 league title. We have taken an initiative of bringing in more Zambians but being a Zambian in the team doesn’t mean that you are guaranteed to play. You need to work hard and compete with everybody,

“We all recall that there was a lot of noise in terms of the composition of the team and people had a lot of different views about the constituents, or the members of the Buildcon FC team,” Mubanga said.

He said one of the most important things that came out was that Buildcon was not paying attention to local players.

“We have done better this year but we will still maintain the same philosophy that the most important thing is your performance and not where you are coming from,” said Mubanga

Mubanga pledged management’s total commitment towards the needs of the club in its quest to achieve the set targets.

He said that the club had embarked on a business model which was expected to drive the club’s revenue to be able to compete with teams sponsored by national corp9orate entities.

“With a low level of investment, it is difficult for a privately- owned team such as Buildcon to compete with other teams supported by multinational corporate entities,

“However in our quest to address some of these concerns, we have embarked on a business model which is expected to drive revenue beyond football and attract new investment to the team,” he said

He said his management would continue to position Buildcon in the market competitively so that it achieves its long-term goal of being commercially sustainable.

“Management will offer total support to the team and we are confident that the team will record more success this year,” Mubanga said.

Buildcon has recruited a number of local players such as defenders Lawrence Chungu and Isaac Shamujompa from Power Dynamos and Nchanga Rangers respectively while former TP Mazembe striker Given Singuluma and midfielder Portipher Zulu have joined from TP Mazembe and Lusaka Dynamos respectively.

Buildcon have also acquired the services of Lameck Silwaba who has signed a two-year deal from Nakambala Leopards.
