Lusaka’s Obama residents cry for water

THE continued water shortage in Obama settlement area in Munali constituency has raised concern among residents who have since called on Lusaka Water and Sewerage Company to look into the issue and ensure that they find a lasting solution to the water challenges that the residents are facing.

The residents have complained that the water shortage is making the lives of residents difficult because they are forced to move long distances to go and fetch water.

They have said that it is unfortunate that people are still having water challenges in this era where diseases are breaking out on a daily basis.

Maureen Kamaba a resident of Obama complained that people are being forced to walk long distances to look for water.

Ms. Kamaba said that the water shortage in the area is also inconveniencing school going children because they have to go and fetch water before going to school.

Kelvin Miyambo said it is saddening that children’s education is being affected especially those at nursery and lower primary because of constant water shortages in the area.

Ms. Miyambo explained that the water shortage is also risking the health of  residents because going for many days without water is a health hazard for it can lead to an outbreak of diseases.

He said there is urgent need for the water utility company to look into the matter and ensure that water is made available in good time.

‘‘We need water as residents and we are appealing to Lusaka Water to look into the issue so that we can have running and safe drinking water as residents,’’ she said.
