After going through a safe abortion, a teenage girl of Choma has vowed not to get an early pregnancy again.
The 17 year old explained that having an unwanted pregnancy made her life challenging as she had even dropped out of school for months.
“I vow not to get pregnant again before I complete my education because my life was hard and even the pain I went through was too much,” said the teenager.
She encouraged young girls to stay away from premature sex and avoid getting early unwanted pregnancies, stressing that good health and education were more important.
This was after Family Development Initiative (FDI) in conjunction with the Swedish government and United Nations Educational,Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) came together to sponsor back five girls who had dropped out of school due to early pregnancies in the district.
Family Development Initiative district Coordinator Sheikh Saiti Maida disclosed that the beneficiaries were receiving K1,500 each to carter for their school needs such uniforms and groceries.
He observed that many girls were failing to get back to school after having early pregnancies as parents could not support them.
He added that such girls should not be stigmatized as they also have a chance to get an education and compete fairly in school.
And Choma District Commissioner Gamela Sikaleya urged parents to be more open about sexuality matters with their children.
He said there was need to support all children including those that had been in Early marriages and pregnancies so that they excel.
Mr Sikaleya expressed gratitude over the support given to the girls saying there was need for all stakeholders to put up concerted efforts in ending vices facing children.
