WORKERS at Solwezi government Lodge are not on the payroll, five years after its inception, North Western Province Patriotic Front (PF) Chairperson, Jackson Kungo, has learned.

Speaking in Solwezi at the weekend when he addressed government workers during commemoration of the fifth anniversary of Solwezi Lodge, Mr. Kungo said this was an indication of the lack of seriousness on the people employed by government to run public institutions.

“We cannot have workers not on payroll five years after the opening of the lodge. On behalf of the party we will make changes. So when transfers start coming people should not be complaining because they are not working.”Mr. Kungo warned.

He further disclosed that the party had informed President Lungu over the matter saying come March, the affected workers would start receiving their salaries.

“The issue has been reported to the President and instructions have already been given and come March you shall be paid, If you are not paid then come and report the mater to my office,” said Mr. Kungo

And Mr. Kungo said civil servants were expected to perform their duties diligently in line with their responsibility of supervising and implementing government policies effectively.

He warned that government would not tolerate any casual attitude towards work from any civil servant adding that government was in a hurry to deliver meaningful development to people.

Meanwhile, Mr. Kungo has disclosed that government was giving attention to the development needs of North-Western Province.

He said the almost complete Solwezi-Chingola road and the soon to be built township roads proved President Lungu’s commitment towards development goals.

And, Kasempa District commissioner Goodson Sansakuwa who was guest of honor at the event, representing the Provincial Minister, called on various government wings in the province to give business to the lodge in order to help the institution to grow and prosper.

He said while management at the lodge had challenges they were working tirelessly to address them so as to become a front runner in the hotel and hospitality business.
