SMALL and Medium Entrepreneurs (SMEs) in Kalumbila district have been urged to formalise their businesses by registering with various government agencies.

The call was made by district commissioner Robinson Kalota during a business clinic held at Mutanda Dairy Cooperative yesterday for SMEs in that district organised by the North-Western Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Mr Kalota said formalising businesses would help enable entrepreneurs have access to various business opportunities not only in the private but also in the public sector.

“You cannot have access to big business opportunities when you are not legally registered with institutions such as PACRA, NAPSA and many others. So, once again I urge you to visit these institutions and formalise your businesses,” Mr Kalota said.

He said the Patriotic Front (PF) government had created a conducive business environment and it was up to the people themselves to take advantage of the situation and grow their businesses.

He, however, called upon the government agencies to set up offices in the district so that SMEs could easily access their services.

He said Kalumbila district was economically growing at a fast rate with various businesses mushrooming due to the ongoing mining activities.

He also commended the North-Western chamber of Commerce and Industry for the efforts in supporting Government’s diversification agenda.

“I, therefore, recommend that you come up with a long term partnership strategy that will involve various government institutions and other stakeholders to ensure that the linkages being created perform to the expectations of the people and become a great success by producing key players in the economy,” he said.
