U-20 progress elates Lungu

President Edgar Lungu says he is convinced that the country is on course in building a solid senior team that can bring greater glory to the nation.

In a statement issued by Special Assistant to the President Amos Chanda, after the Zambia under 20 national team defeated Egypt 3-1 in the final group A game played at heroes stadium President Lungu said he was impressed with the steady progress the junior chipolopolo have made at the ongoing under 20 AfCON.

“Today, I am glad to send more congratulations to the team for their sweet victory against Egypt this afternoon,” President said.

“Given the decisive and steady progress the Junior Chipolopolo is making in the ongoing Africa Under-20 Cup of Nations, I am more than convinced that we are on course towards forming a solid senior team that can bring us greater glory not too long from now,” he added.

President Lungu said that the beauty of football is inherent in  the unifying character it imposes on the nation noting that the more the Junior Chipolopolo records victory, the more the nation becomes more united.

He has reassured the team and the Football Association of Zambia of his personal support and Government’s unwavering commitment in the country’s efforts aimed at improving the standard of football in Zambia.

Egypt’s defeat by the Junior Chipolopolo ensured that the Beston Chambeshi tutored boys qualify for the semifinal with a hundred percent winning record having beaten all their opponents in group A of the Under 20 AfCON tournament.
