DISPLACEMENT OF VILLAGERS SHOCKS VEEP

VICE President Inonge Wina has expressed shocked to learn of the displacement of villagers of Nsinde village in Simonga area in Livingstone District by a foreign national.

Ms Wina has observed as a result of their displacement, the villagers have lost their communal land where their animals had been grazing from.

She said there is no way that villagers can be displaced on the land they have occupied since time immemorial resulting in losing the grazing land for animals.

This came to light when she met community leaders at Chrismar Hotel in Livingstone yesterday.

During the meeting, Albert Lisuma, the senior headman for Nsinde village brought to the attention of the Vice President, their displacement by a foreign who purchased the land where the village is and consequently locals lost out.

Headman Nsinde appealed to Ms Wina to intervene in the matter adding that their displacement has brought suffering among the people.

The Vice President further said that she has noticed that the people of Simonga are still cocooned in their villages without benefiting from the tourism sector.

She attributed the situation to lack of leadership at both local government and parliamentary for them to have people who can speak for them and also work with government.

“You have had Councilors and MPs for 20 years, but the question is what they were doing if Simonga is not seeing any development. The reason is simple, the UPND is not allowing them to work with government,” she said.

“For them (UPND), they would have been very happy to see the PF fail because for them it is all about politics and voting and not development,” she said
