THE Patriotic Front (PF) and the UPND have been faking defections of members from other political parties because they are desperate to show that either of them is popular than the other, Forum for Democracy and Development (FDD) vice president Chifumu Banda has claimed.

Both the PF and United Party for National Development (UPND) have in the recent past received mass defectors from FDD.

But Mr Banda said that the two biggest political parties were faking the defections to hoodwink observers.

He said that the ruling party and UPND had been competing for supremacy and were too desperate to the extent of buying off pretenders.

Mr Banda said that PF and UPND were currently competing in a direction of showing that they were getting more members from other political parties.

“That is all fake, the two parties have been faking those defections. They are competing against each other and too desperate to show that either of them is more popular than the other,” said Mr Banda.

Mr Banda said that FDD was working quietly, focusing on mobilising its membership and would continue doing so.

Meanwhile, Mr Banda said that FDD, “unlike other political parties that have never gone for a convention since their creation” would hold one as soon resources were available.

He however said that a political party was not all about holding conventions, adding that what was more prominent was mobilisation.

“When did these parties that are always in the newspapers everyday last hold their convention. We are not like some parties which have never had a convention since their creation. We will hold our convention when all modalities are put in place,” said Mr Banda.
