The Zambia Police Service has urged the public to ignore a social media posting by a self-proclaimed prophet in which he claims that God had showed him that foreign ritual killers had entered the country.

In the voice note which has gone viral, the prophet claims that the foreign killers were targeting albinos, women, children and drunk men from whom they would be removing body parts.

But Zambia Police spokesperson, Esther Katongo has advised the public that “we do not have any information about the alleged person. Of People had information about it, the best they should have done was to confide it with the police first before circulating it on social media,” she said.

Ms Katongo warned perpetrators to stop alarming the public by creating alarming statements that might cause panic and jeopardise the lives of innocent people.

She said that people should be careful in the way they release information, because they might put an innocent person in harm.

She added that anyone with information with regard to the alleged ritual killers should come forward and not parade the information in public domain.

“But the public should be very careful with certain information they received especially from unverified sources. Sometimes people just want to use the police to settle their personal scores,” she said.

Ms Katongo was reacting to a social media posting purporting that one person had been identified as being behind the serial killings.
