Tanzanians raid Zambia for cheap fuel

TANZANIANS are now flocking to Nakonde and Chinsali in Muchinga Province to buy cheap fuel as the commodity is too expensive in their country, provincial Permanent Secretary Davison Mulenga has said.
Captain Mulenga said Zambia was one of the countries in the region with cheap fuel which was attracting people from neighbouring countries.
He said people from Tanzanian were “flooding” filling stations in Nakonde and Chinsali because the commodity was too expensive in their country.
Capt Mulenga said the development was causing fuel shortage in the border town and Chinsali.
He said people of Chinsali were now relying on Mpika because Tanzanians were unable to reach the area.
“It is very true that people from neighbouring countries like Tanzania are coming in Zambia in search of fuel,” Capt Mulenga said.
He said he would engage the Ministry of Energy to ensure that there were no shortages.
