GOVT NEEDS STABLE MINING POLICY – EXPERT

By PETER SICHALI

THE new government should come up with a stable mining policy, Mining expert Danny Mwila has said.

Mr Mwila urged the new government to come up with policies that will favour small scale miners.
“For example in the acquisition of mining licence, it has not been easy for a good number of small scale miners to acquire mining licences because they lack funds to engage a consultant to conduct an Environmental Project brief and a Geologist to ascertain the probable deposit within their licence areas,” Mr Mwila said.

He said there was need for a consistent mining policy that would create certainty in the sector.
“This country needs policy consistency in the mining sector unlike changing policy every time,” Mr Mwila said.

He said with the current laws small scale miners only managed to acquire exploration licences.
Mr Mwila said a mining policy that will favour Zambians and small scale miners was needed.
“We need a policy that will favour Zambian small scale miners in order for them to manage develop their tenement,” Mr Mwila said.
