DIALYSIS consumables that were in short supply at most health facilities in the country are now available at all renal units.
Ministry of Health spokesperson, Dr Abel Kabalo, said in an interview that normal operations in all the renal units had resumed following the arrival of the consumables.
Dr Kabalo urged renal patients not to panic and ensured that every Zambian would be given equal access to quality health services.
“The consumables arrived in the country just as we had assured and normal operations have resumed. So patients should not panic as we will ensure that they are cared for,” he said.
Dr Kabalo said the disruption in the supply chain was caused by the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic which led to a shortage of the dialysis consumables in the country.
He said the pandemic had affected the rate at which the renal supplies were being produced as a number of companies had closed down.
Health Minister, Dr Jonas Chanda, gave a stern directive to have consumables and equipment for renal dialysis available following a big mortality rate of patients as a result of the shortage.
