…as Power Dynamos seek redemption against African Stars
POWER Dynamos’s quest to progress to the next preliminary round of the CAF Champions League faces another tricky test today when the Zambian champions host Namibian champions African Stars in the reverse fixture of the first preliminary round at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.
After a disappointing 2-1 defeat in the first leg played last weekend in Johannesburg South Africa, the Kitwe giants will fight for nothing but a win to progress to the next round.
Led by coach Mwenya Chipepo, the Kitwe outfit will have to improve on their tactical approach after struggling in the away fixture where they were tormented by Edmund Kambanda and Peter Adiwoh who scored the crucial goals in the first leg.
Despite African Stars having the advantage going into today’s clash, Chipepo is confident his charges have what it takes to overturn the tables.
Chipepo said his players are ready and determined to put up a spirited fight having trained hard.
Chipepo appealed to their fans to come in large numbers to motivate the team.
Captain Godfrey Ngwenya believes the players are rejuvenated to avenge the loss suffered in South Africa.
Chipepo is likely to maintain the same squad which started in the away fixture with Lawrence Mulenga expected to retain the position between the sticks.
John Soko, Kondwani Chiwoni Faustin Bakodila and Dominick Chanda will be expected to be solid in defence while Aaron Katebe, Salulani Phiri and Owen Tembo will anchor the midfield.
Speedy wingers Joshua Mutale and Jacob Kaunda may partner with top striker Andy Boyeli who was able to grab the crucial away goal in the away fixture.
Meanwhile, African Stars coach Prince Koffie, said they are here to compete a double over Power Dynamos.
The former Ghanaian international is expecting a tough match against the Zambian champions who he described as a tough team.
Koffie is however confident that African Stars have what it takes to overcome Power Dynamos and progress to the next preliminary round.
The winner between the two sides will likely meet Tanzanian giants Simba FC in the pre-group stage round of the CAF Champions League.
Tomorrow, continental football action continues with Zambian envoys in the CAF Confederations Cup Muza FC who will host Cono Sports of Equatorial Guinea at Heroes Stadium in Lusaka.
Muza have an away goal advantage after holding Cono Sport to a 1-1 stalemate in the first leg fixture played last weekend in Equatorial Guinea.
