ZAF OFFICER ‘SUSPECT’ KILLERS ARRESTED

FOUR inmates alleged to have beaten to death flight sergeant Mark Nchimunya Chongwa, a Zambia Air Force (ZAF) soldier, while in police custody at Woodlands police Station have been arrested and charged with murder.

Assistant public relations officer Nephas Chifuta announced yesterday that Zambia Police Service had concluded its investigations in the murder case of Sgt. Chongwa who was alleged to have been beaten to death whilst in police custody on March 17, 2017 in Lusaka.

“Four inmates alleged to have picked up a quarrel with the deceased whilest in custody have been arrested and charged with the murder of the deceased soldier,” he said.

Mr. Chifuta named the four inmates as Joseph Phiri aged 32 of Chalala area in Lusaka who was facing a charge of theft, Andrew Kaonga aged 31 a police sergeant of Kamfinsa mobile unit charged for criminal trespass, Felix Kalumba aged 40 charged for motor vehicle theft and Martin Chanda aged 24 facing a charge of Assault Occasioning Actual Bodly Harm (OABH).

He said the quartet would appear in court on Monday.

Mr. Chifuta has warmed some media houses and individuals who had continuously been issuing unverified and alarming statement to stop forthwith to allow the due process of the law to take its course.
