THE PATRIOTIC Front in Livingstone district has described United Party for National Development (UPND) Livingstone Member of Parliament Mathews Jere as an absentee landlord.

The party says since parliament adjourned last year, the Livingstone MP had allegedly not been there for the people who voted for him and has never gone to the community to interact and listen to challenges facing them.

In an apparent reference to the removal of street vendors from the streets by the local authority and other challenges facing residents of Livingstone, PF Information and Publicity Secretary (IPS) Philemon Musonda said that it was a pity that the people of Livingstone had a representative who was never there for them.

In an interview with the Daily Nation in Livingstone, Mr. Musonda said that Mr. Jere has lamentably failed to initiate any project in Livingstone as compared to the previous Member of Parliament Lawrence Evans who won the sit on a PF ticket in 2013.

“Lawrence was doing a commendable job as compared to Jere…Before the elections in 2016, Lawrence did initiate a number of projects such as the road rehabilitations, the bus terminus, the market and the water reticulation improvement in Sawmills Township,” he said.

“As for Jere, he has failed and we know him from the council when he was a councilor; he is an absentee landlord who has abandoned his people after voting for him.

Today even if we were to go for parliamentary bye- election, PF would scoop the seat…The MP is not working with the people,” he said.

He lamented that Mr. Jere was not the right person to represent the people of Livingstone adding he deserves a vote of no confidence.
