Nevers Mumba has dented Zambia’s image – Mundubile

…says the MMD leader has brought Zambia, a country admired as a beacon of peace into shame, odium and ridicule to the international community

NEVERS Mumba’s conduct as head of the SADC Electoral Observer Mission (SEOM) in the just ended Zimbabwe’s harmonised elections has fuelled perceptions that Zambia is championing imperialism and puppetism in the region.

Mr Mundubile, the leader of the Opposition in Parliament said in an interview it was unfortunate that Zambia was now being accused of harbouring imperialists that wanted to fight countries in the region due to the conduct of the country’s leadership.

“A lot of things have come out as a result of Dr Mumba’s conduct because now, the accusations are that Zambia is sponsoring a regime change in Zimbabwe. That is most unfortunate. Now, can you imagine we are now in a country where everyone is viewing us suspiciously?”

“Not very long ago, we were all proud to be Zambians, whether you are in Namibia and say you are Zambian, somebody welcomed and offered you a drink. The same when you go to Zimbabwe and South Africa. But now, you have to be careful to introduce yourself as a Zambian because of how our leaders have conducted themselves in the recent past,” Mr Mundubile said.
