Relegation-threatened Nkana beef up squad

 By MICHAEL MIYOBA

IN a quest to survive the relegation battle when the FAZ Super League resume, relegation threatened Nkana FC have beefed up their squad with the signing of Chinga Chitoshi, Congolese Christopher Ilondo Itaka and veteran Ronald ‘Sate Sate’ Kampamba.

Chitoshi joins Nkana as a free agent after leaving Forest Rangers where he scored five goals in his three-season-long stay in Ndola.

“After three years with Forest Rangers Football Club, utility player Chitoshi Chinga has left the team.

“He joined Malembe in 2020 from Lumwana Radiants and made significant contributions during his time with the club. Notably, he helped the team qualify for their maiden CAF Champions League, secured their first ABSA Cup title, and Charity Shield,” Forest Rangers confirmed in a statement.

Meanwhile, striker Ronald “Sate Sate” Kampamba has finally been confirmed as a Nkana FC player after his contract was not renewed at Kansanshi Dynamos while Congolese youngster Itaka joins Kalampa as a free agent from A.C Normands of The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

“Christopher has been training with the team for four months and he has proven to be a deadly striker. We are hopeful that he is going to partner well with our striking force. Watch out for this young boy,” Nkana FC president Joseph Silwamba said.

“Ronald ‘Sate Sate’ Kampamba has come back home. This is a boy that needs no introduction and I think many of you know what he is capable of doing. Sate has been training with the team for some time now and he has shown that he is still the ‘Sate Sate’ that we knew,” Silwamba said.

Silwamba is hopeful that the new signings will ensure that the Kitwe giants finish the league in a respectable position.

“Nkana is a CAF championship team, hence the need to always ensure that the team finishes in a respectable position,” Silwamba said.

The trio join Congolese striker Idris Mbombo, goalkeeper Monga Ndala, midfielder Laurent Muma and winger Austin Banda who were unveiled on January 6, 2024.

“Our prayer and hope is that with the seven additions in this window, Kalampa will be a force to reckon with as the second phase of the 2023/24 MTN Super League resume and as we welcome you fans back in the stands,” Silwamba said.

Nkana are 16th on the MTN/FAZ Super League table with 19 points from the first 20 games.

Meanwhile, Red Arrows are set to complete the signing of Zimbabwean striker Thomas Chideu on a free transfer.

Chideu is set to sign a one-and-half years deal with the Airmen after leaving Power Dynamos on mutual consent.
