A 25-YEAR-OLD woman caused laughter in a Local Court in Lusaka when she asked her husband if he was not taking money to prostitutes.

This is in a case in which Melody Mulenga of Chazanga compound sued her husband, Andrew Banda, 30, for reconciliation.

However, Banda said that he did not want to reconcile with his wife, Mulenga.

The two got married in 2010 and have two children. Dowry was paid.

Mulenga told Senior Court Magistrate Miyanda Banda sitting with Magistrate Pauline Newa at Matero Local Court that they were differing with Banda because he was taking money to prostitutes and that she was surviving by doing piece works.

She explained that when she asked him about the money, he was beating her.

In defence, Banda said that problems started in June last year because he gave Mulenga school fees close to K2000 for a child but she did not pay and started insulting him.

He explained that when they sat, he told elders that Mulenga did not have respect and that he did not know where she took money.

“Mulenga said that they were doing ‘chilimba’ with her friends for K4000 but I did not see the money and her friends denied. I don’t want to reconcile with Mulenga because she tells people that she doesn’t love me,’’ said Banda.

In cross-examination, Mulenga asked Banda if he was not taking money to prostitutes. ’simwenze kupeleka ndalama ku mahule’?

But Banda denied and said that Mulenga was the one getting his salary on his behalf.

Magistrate Banda said that the court could not force Banda to continue in marriage since he did not want to reconcile and he ruled a failed reconciliation.
