Kansanshi Dynamos fire coach to start winning

By MICHAEL MIYOBA

KANSANSHI Dynamos have fired head coach Boyd Mulwanda following a poor run of results since the beginning of the season.

Meanwhile, the team reacted to the latest development by beating Kabwe Warriors in a Week-11 MTN Zambia Super League fixture played at Nchanga Stadium in Chingola.

Mulwanda, who had joined Kansanshi Dynamos in January 2022 struggled to inspire the team to pick positive results in the last 10 games of the domestic league.

The former Forest Rangers coach had won only one game, drawing six and losing three matches as Kansanshi Dynamos dropped into the relegation zone.

Failure to inspire his charges to victory in the last five games compelled the club to release the head gaffer who was replaced by former Napsa Stars coach Donwell Yobe.

“The change has been done in the interest of both parties for future growth and achievements. Effective immediately, First Assistant Coach Donwell Yobe will assume an interim role as Head Coach in charge of the club,” the club said in a statement.

Meanwhile, in his first assignment as an interim gaffer, Yobe guided the team to victory beating in-form Kabwe Warriors who had defeated Konkola Blades, Power Dynamos, Zesco United and Green Buffaloes in the last four fixtures to move to top spot on the Super League table.

First and second half goals from Jimmy Mukeya and Justin Kang’ombe gifted Kansanshi Dynamos their second win of the season to move to 12 points.

Mukeya broke the deadlock just eight minutes into the first stanza with a sublime header.

Warriros almost snatched the equaliser in the 57th minute but where unfortunate as Prince Mumba hit the cross bar with his effort.

Kang’ombe made things worse for Warriors after he doubled the lead with a 90th minute goal which handed Warriors their second loss of the season.

The victory propelled Kansanshi to 12th on the log with 12 points while Kabwe Warriors maintained top spot with 21 points despite having lost to the “Mabanga Boys”.
