UPND FORMULA IS NOT WORKING – KAMPYONGO

By OLIVER SAMBOKO

Despite the UPND boasting about many achievements to their name, their formula has not improved the living standards of Zambians, Shiwang’andu MP Stephen Kampyongo, has said.

Mr Kampyongo who asked the Vice-President in Parliament yesterday on what measures the new dawn administration has put in place to reduce the cost of living for the citizens, said the people in the country are suffering.

He said the UPND promised that once the old stock of essential commodities finished, the prices were going to go down.

Mr Kampyongo said Government should make some assurance on what is being done to ease the burden on  the citizens who are struggling to put food on the table.

He said there is need to cushion the hardships Zambians have been subjected to,  caused by the increase in fuel pump prices.

But Vice President Mutale Nalumango defended the UPND formula saying prices of essential commodities have relatively come down following the reduction in the inflation rate.

She said contrary to claims that prices had gone up, the fact was that prices are coming down, adding that just recently some chain store announced reduction in their pricing on essential commodities including mealie meal.

Ms Nalumango said the new dawn government will continue working hard to improve the economy.

She said economic hardship is not aligned   to Zambia alone but that it’s World over adding Zambia was doing far much better than other many countries in Africa.
